Collection on Display: Heidi Bucher, Thea Djordjadze, Berta Fischer, Loredana Sperini, Katja Strunz

Collection on Display presents selected works from the collection of the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst. The first two exhibitions from the collection to be held in 2013 continue the cycle of shows exploring contemporary sculpture we initiated in 2012. Both presentations bring together works that draw on a modernist formal vocabulary while also engaging with different materials and their connotations. Questions of (re)presentation are another central issue.

In the second half of 2013, we will launch a three-part cycle of exhibitions from the collection that will examine the role, functions, and possibilities of space and interiors in contemporary art, featuring works by L/B, Christoph Büchel, Heidi Bucher, Jimmie Durham, and others. The installations to be displayed in these shows address specific spatial arrangements or constitute self-contained spaces within the museum space. We will focus on topics such as the installation in space as a participative setting, space as a site of recollection, and the psychological energies invested in spatial architectures and structures. In collaboration with the project "Anagrammatic Spaces: Interiors in Contemporary Art" at the University of Berne (supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation), we will organize an extensive program of events to be held in conjunction with the exhibitions.
