Heroes and Villains? First of all human-beings. Me as I am and all the things I am involved in wouldn't be there without the RAF. Say it's important, say it's romantic. The people who became the RAF behaved like 'good democrats' until they realised that the people who are in power don't care about democracy - besides most of them have been big in the 3rd Reich. The RAF was a communist guerilla organisation fighting against the imperialist capitalism for a better society.
Oooops... Maybe this sounds like a big cliche or yesterday papers to you, but we in western Europe had different fights, and communism as an idea has nothing to do with the 'real-existing-socialism' of the DDR or Sovietunion.
There have been 3 generations of RAF, and where there was in the beginning a lot of sympathy and support from the leftwingers, they lost it during the years. Anyway until they offically closed down in 1998 they always put the fingers on open sores.
And besides the mass-media and governmental hysteria: in their 28 years of existence during actions of the RAF 20 members and no more than 35 other persons died.
